Now...now...now...now...nothing else matters in our lives, and our lives in sales...what are we doing, what are we creating, what are we paying attention to...RIGHT NOW?
Now is the only moment that exists...it's the only thing we can impact...it's the only place where we can live. And yet so many people, and I think especially salespeople, are rarely focused on the moment at hand, the now. They live in the past, thinking about days gone by, about what we could have done, or should have done, or used to do...or we dread the future...what's going to happen tomorrow? This weekend? This month? About not hitting my monthly numbers, etc...
Well you may say, "Greg...isn't it impossible NOT to think about the past and the future?" And my answer is - no it's not impossible...it just takes a major, aha-like paradigm shift...then lots of practice.
The aha-like paragdigm shift is in realizing that we are NOT our mind...we're not even subject to what our mind throws out there as far as ideas, concepts, beliefs, etc...our mind works FOR us...which means it's sitting "over there", separate from us....and we can watch it and demand more of it than the usual thing it likes to do, which is create drama and "chaos"...and it does that by spending time in the past and dreading the future...two periods that don't really exist, and two areas you can not control.
I know it's a freaky thing, but believe me...once you grasp that you're not subject to your mind and it's thoughts, it will help you dramatically improve as a salesperson, and in the other roles you play in life.
For once you can step out of all that mind noise, you can actually start to focus and listen at levels you never DREAMED possible...
